A brand-new nursery for two to four-year-olds is set to open at Speenhamland School in Newbury this September.
The new provision, named Little Dragons Nursery, will be based within the school’s Early Years setting and is designed to offer a high-quality, nurturing environment where children begin “learning to be brave, kind and curious.”
Speenhamland School is the only school in West Berkshire to secure funding from the Department for Education as part of its Phase 2 programme to expand nursery provision, supporting the development of new places for local families.
The nursery has been thoughtfully designed to offer a rich balance of indoor and outdoor learning, with a strong emphasis on play, exploration and early development.
The Headteacher at Speenhamland School, Mrs Lewry, said the opening marks an exciting step for the school and wider community. “We are incredibly proud to be opening our new nursery this September. We want every child to have the strongest possible start, building confidence, independence and a love of learning from an early age.”
The nursery will reflect the school’s values of resilience, respect, responsibility, resourcefulness and risk-taking, supporting children’s communication, wellbeing and personal development.
Families will be able to access places for two, three and four-year-olds, including government-funded sessions where eligible. The provision will also offer a smooth transition into Reception at the school, helping children feel confident and ready for the next stage of their education.
Work on developing the nursery space is currently under way, with plans including a dedicated learning environment and an engaging outdoor area tailored to younger children.
