Speenhamland School

About Us

"We have a wonderful staff team with a variety of experience. Each staff member has a responsibility for a curriculum area which they promote with activities and display boards. Classes also have teaching assistants who help support and encourage children to do their best. Our school has a special unit called The Keevill, which is a purpose built learning area for our less-abled children. These amazing staff also help run our after school clubs."

"We are lucky to have the opportunity to have our very own Forest School on our grounds. We are able to take some of our lessons outside and learn skills such as: fire-lighting, shelter building, practicing our risk-taking in team activities. We also learn important safety rules to help us in the future."

"All the staff at Speenhamland smile and make the learning fun.  They listen and help if we are upset for any reason."

"During the school year, many children are selected to represent the school in a range of competitions. The majority are sporting events such as football, cross country, netball and tag rugby. It is really great to compete against other schools, and we have even won medals. As well as this, our school has attended Maths events against other schools, subject workshops at Trinity, and also House Speeches – an amazing event where children were given the opportunity to present a speech to judges at Trinity."

"We have a wide variety of extra-curricular clubs run by our great teaching staff and some outside coaches. The clubs that are currently on offer are: gymnastics, dance, Lego masters, choir, mindful colouring, to name a few. These clubs enable us to shine in areas not necessarily promoted in the school curriculum. These activities also allow us to work with children in other classes and even different year groups."

"During the autumn term, our year 6 children are invited to attend a residential trip in the Isle of Wight. This involves the children, and the accompanying adults, enjoying a range of outdoor activities organised by the staff at the site. This year, we enjoyed zip-lining, buggy building, rock-pooling, archery, orienteering and even a night hike! It was brilliant!."

"We pride ourselves on our 5 Rs – Resilience, Respect, Risk-taking, Responsible, Resourceful. These are used to help us all, children and adults, to strive for excellence in all that we do. We often have assemblies linked to these values where children are rewarded for exhibiting these desired behaviours. We believe that this whole school approach encourages children to improve their attitudes and behaviours."

"It is great that within the school we are allowed to practice our leadership skills during school time. We have lots of roles that include: House Captains, Librarians, PM Pals, Sports Captains and even our very own Trodon Team! Responsibilities include collecting dragon eggs for the Houses, running sports on the grids during playtimes and lunchtimes, and organising games to play with the younger children."
Isla SR

"Behaviour at Speenhamland is exceptional. Children are allowed to showcase their individuality, yet encouraged to work collaboratively as a class. Positive class behaviour is rewarded with Golden Dragon Eggs, which earn your class a special treat chosen by the children. Every week positive behaviour is rewarded in an assembly with certificates for PSHE and class."
Michael A

"Within the entire school, we have 4 House teams using colours in different languages (Azul, Zolty, Laal and Verde) to represent our diversity and difference. Dragon Eggs are handed out for showcasing great achievements and behaviour, and these are totalled at the end of the week by the House Captains. At the end of every term, the winning House receive the House Cup. We also organise charity events within these Houses, and plan, prepare and organise fund-raising events."
