This week, millions of people will be getting ready to celebrate Chinese New Year on the 12th February. People will eat lots of food, enjoy fireworks, wear special clothes and hang red lanterns to mark the occasion. The Chinese New Year calendar has 12 years in a cycle. Each cycle is named after an animal, in a particular order. Find out how the animals of the Chinese Zodiac decided who would have which year named after them https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/chinese-new-year Your challenge this week is to decide which animals would you have to represent each new year, and how would you decide their order. You could draw a picture, write a story or design a challenge for your animals. Send your ideas to kosmond@speenhamland.newburyacademytrust.org. |

School Council challenge |
This week's school council challenge is to make and send a card to a friend.
Send a Card to a Friend Day - 7th February 2021end a C Everyone loves and appreciates their friends, and we all just assume that they know how much we care and that we are always thinking about them. Sadly, many of our friends will experience loneliness and feel under appreciated from time to time. That’s just how life goes. That’s why Send a Card to a Friend Day exists, and why year after year it is so popular! A small gesture that we may not think make any difference could actually make our friends day. All it takes is a cute little card with a nice personal message in it to put a smile on their face. This could be an e-card that you send to them online, or better yet, a home made one that oozes thoughtfulness, ideal for your extra special besties. Whatever you do, don’t miss out on celebrating your friendships on this special day! |

This is the description of one of the blankets from the book: He came into the bedchamber and tossed a huge blanket over her. The blanket was coarse and spiky and, as the princess tried to push it off, it scratched at her arms and hands, drawing blood. It was roughly woven in blacks and browns and dark greens. The blanket smelled mossy and damp, and the Princess saw that it was patterned with ancient trees and birds of prey, embroidered with dark undergrowth and small, wild creatures. “The forest’s blanket,” he said. There was darkness in the blanket; there were frightening shadows. There were brambles and snakes. The blanket clawed at her and she felt faint.
